We now have an instrument sample page. This page has recordings of instruments that you can use in your own music. The first one posted is a shofar. Check it out! One of Martin's musical interests is the didgeridoo. It is an instrument that was created by the aborigines in Australia. They are typically made out of a eucalyptus tree trunk that has been hollowed out by termites, and then expert aborigine craftsmen cut the trees, shave down the outside and make them into didgeridoos. Randy Graves, one of the finest didgeridoo players in the world, has a nice presentation on his Gingerroot website that shows how Djalu Gurruwiwi, the premier didgeridoo craftsman in Australia, makes his instruments. They are also called "didjeridu" and "yidaki" among other names. It is a rhythm instrument that is played similarly to a trombone, but with a technique called circular breathing that allows the player to keep a continuous drone going. Another musical interest is the Native American flute. Martin has been incorporating it into his music and has done a solo flute piece as a response to his feelings about the 911 terrorist attacks. Listen to "911 Elegy" on Soundclick.com. Check out an interview with Martin that was done by a very well known person in the didgeridoo community, Ed Drury, in his Portland area didgeridoo newsletter. It was a wonderful experience, and I think it turned out great. Starbirth Music is involved in the production and acquisition of music for websites, and other purposes.
